The purpose of this article is to address what I consider to be one of the best way for students (or anybody else for that matter) to earn money online; namely getting paid to do online surveys.
Market research is big business and companies pay out millions each year to find out what consumers think.
There are literally hundreds of good, and not so good survey companies, offering a range of incentives to get hold of your opinions. What follows, therefore, is advice based on my own experience as to the best way to go about earning additional income in this way.
As a student, I spent well over 3 years earning money by filling out online surveys and questionnaires.
It's arguably not the most exciting way to spend your spare time, but if you get organised it can turn out to be the most valuable.
We are not talking thousands of dollars a month here, but you can earn enough to make a real difference.
Top Tips
Get yourself a new e-mail account to use exclusively for your survey work.
I call it survey work because you should treat this as a proper part time job.
You know your schedule better than anybody else, including the times when you could be doing something more productive! Set aside a regular amount of time each day or week and stick to it as best you can.
If you are a student, do not do survey work when you should be doing college work. This is particularly tempting when the money starts coming in, but don't lose track of the bigger picture. Your education takes priority; your survey work should simply viewed as a way of earning a bit of extra cash in your spare time.
When you register with a survey company Complete your registration details as fully as possible. Each time you register with a survey/market research/consumer opinion company you will be asked to provide information regarding your hobbies, interests, lifestyle, family etc.
This information is needed so that a relevant match can be made between you and the subject area of the survey.
With this in mind, the more background information you provide, the more likely it is that you will offered paid survey opportunities.
Complete your registration details honestly. Surveys are much quicker to complete when you actually know something about the subject matter.
To guarantee regular survey work Register with at least 5 survey companies.
It's easy to lose track of which companies you have joined, how many surveys you have completed and how much you have earned, so keep a written or electronic record (preferably both) of the company name, website address, your username and password.
About once a month quickly check each company, making a note of how many surveys you were offered and more importantly what you received in return.
You'll soon get a feel for the company or companies you like the best and conversely, whether you should consider dropping or replacing others.
Incentives vary, so make sure that some of the companies you register with pay cold hard cash for your time.

2. Online scams will almost always ask for money up front. These scams make money by taking cash off of unsuspecting people before they even get started with the business venture. But by charging a lot of money up front they can get paid, and then send out the money making system that has no chance of working. Before you send out any money up front, you will want to make sure that you are 100% positive that the system that you are going to be getting works. This can be done by asking for references, or trying to find people that have used the system in the past. By doing this you will be able to avoid online scams every single time.
3. Online scams often times switch the name of their product
frequently so that people do not catch onto them. This can be easily picked up on by researching the opportunity before you get started.
Simply take a look at the system that they are going to sell you, and then do some research on it. Go online and see if you can find out if they were selling the same system under a different name. Also, ask around to find out if anybody has ever used a similar system. If a company had changed the name of their product they are most likely trying to avoid the reputation of running online scams. passion then add the word "forums" to the end, then press the
"Google Search" button.
So for example if you have a passion for Fly Fishing just do a search in Google for "Fly Fishing Forums".
In less than a second you'll see at a glance how many forums
there are about your chosen subject. Go ahead and check a few of them out so see how active they are.
It's these forums where you'll find all the people who will ultimately become your customers or visitors to your niche market website idea.
If there are none or very few of these forums, just go back to step 1. and brainstorm some more. On the other hand if there are plenty of these online forums around move onto step 3.
3. Show me the money!
Once you've found a market of people who share your interest there are a few more things you need to know before taking another step...
a) Do they have a credit card?
b) Are they used to making online purchases.
The reason why you need to ask this is because not everyone has a credit card and is prepared to use it online.
So how do you find out if your niche market has what it takes to buy whatever you plan on selling?
Simply go back to the original search you did on Google. This time look at the advertisements on the right hand side of the page. If you can see plenty of advertisement that's great! it means that other people are paying money to advertise to your niche market (or the people who share your passion).
If there are few advertisements on your Google search results page, just go back to step 1 and start over.
4. Give 'em what they want!
Here's where the fun begins...
You've found your niche market, you know they have money to spend, now you need to find out what they want.
What you must do now is get into the "meat" of the matter and find out from the horses mouth exactly what people need, create a product to fill that need, then sell it to them.
How do you do this?
Step 1: Set up what's called an "Ask Campaign" website.
Step 2: Advertise your "Ask Campaign" website in Google to target your niche market.
5. Words are the true currency
It's time to get back to "brainstorming" again as this time we need to know what the people in your niche market are searching for, more specifically what words and phrases they're using.

This is the "brilliant" tool that's going to get you ever more "closer" to discovering your next great niche market web site idea. It's through this essential tool that you'll discover how many people are searching for things within your niche market.
What you need to do next is collect the top 10 keywords and phrases people are using within your niche market. Once armed with this list it's time to get your Ask Campaign set up and in place.
6. Ask it!

Once you've got your Ask Campaign website set up it's time to get it in front of as many people in your niche market as possible. What you're going to do is get them to ask you a question.
